The result:

189!!!

I don’t really expect to lose a pound a day in this… but it’s pretty cool that it’s working out that way!

Day 1

So just for fun, I drag out the ol’ bathroom scale, and have my first look in at least a year. And there it was, big as life and twice as ugly:

192.

In the past three years I have gained something in the neighbourhood of 20 pounds. And it ain’t muscle, either. I knew the pants were fitting a little tighter, but sometimes you just need this kind of wakeup call. So, here we are, it’s January, when people make resolutions, and I just watched Rocky last weekend. I therefore resolve:

To lose 20 pounds in an unspecified time frame.

So, I made a plan to get up today and head out jogging. Wouldn’t you know it, Mother Nature saw fit to blanket the city in a sheet of ice. Fine… there’s a treadmill, I’ll use that.

Well, twice today the treadmill beat me after only about 15 minutes. My ankles just stiffened up. But the thingy says I burned a total of about 120 calories. And, I’m going to watch what I eat a bit more — this Coca-Cola C2 ain’t bad — and will still try to get in some running/jogging/walking daily. I’d still like to try doing an early morning jog before work, but I might hold off on that until spring.

And, I will let you know my progress, daily if possible. After one day, I’m now at:

191

One pound in a day. Not too shabby.
