Dick Clark made his return to television last night, and put to bed the jokes about age and robots (with which he played along in the past). He showed us he’s a human being, and not immune to age, and I salute him for it.

Now, it’s reasonable to have a discussion, I think, about whether he should have done it, or stayed behind the scenes and let us remember him as he used to be. That’s a valid discussion. But Outside the Beltway does it in a less than tactful manner and I have to question the author’s choice of words.

I will do more than question the “Outside The Beltway” choice of words. I condemn it.

And credit is due to Dick Clark for his inspiring bravery and vulnerability, and to ABC for having the guts to show the world that age and illness shouldn’t be hidden away in dark corners in a truly free society.
